We get asked quite often about how neon is mounted
and if a neon sign
can be shipped without a backing so it can just hang freely. The answer is simply... no.
I am sorry but no matter what you have heard or think you have seen, ALL neon must be mounted to something
. The glass tubes are attached to little 2" pegs (called tube supports) that must be attached to something. It can be attached to a black or blue lexan backing or perhaps a clear acrylic or even black, blue or clear that has been cut along the contours of the neon. Neon signs can also be mounted on a metal rack or metal skeleton frame as seen on just about every Neon Beer Sign
or Neon Bar Sign
. You can even remove the backing and mount your Custom Neon Sign
directly to a wall or board or other flat surface and leave the wires exposed but you will need to hide or also mount the transformer that powers your neon.
Either way, the point of all this is that neon signs must be attached or mounted to something
. Check out the examples below for reference.
